Accessibility statement
Last updated 15 October 2026
ChoiceMapNI is a map of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s Areas of Choice, made and run by Adam McBride of Dynumo. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. You should be able to:
- use everything with a keyboard, including opening any area from the list and closing it again with Escape
- zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen, and change text spacing without anything being cut off
- use a screen reader: the page has headings, landmarks and a skip link, and the number of matching areas is announced when you change a filter
- use dark mode, which follows your device setting
- turn off animation, which follows your device’s reduced motion setting
- get every area’s details as a list, a spreadsheet or a printable page instead of the map
How accessible this site is
We believe ChoiceMapNI meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 (opens in a new tab) at level AA. Some things are harder to use:
- The map itself. Pins on the map can’t be reached one by one with a keyboard or screen reader, and the map pictures are not described. Everything on the map is also in the list beside it (below it on a phone), and choosing an area in the list opens the same details.
- Colour. Pin colours show points or crime levels. The list, the popups, the spreadsheet and the print-out give the same information in words and numbers.
- Documents we link to. The sources (Housing Executive, council and Assembly PDFs and websites) belong to other organisations and may not be accessible.
- The lite version draws its own simple map instead of loading street map pictures, which may be easier to read.
How we tested it
We last tested ChoiceMapNI on 15 October 2026. We used automated checks (axe-core, against WCAG 2.2 A and AA and best practice) on every page in light and dark mode at desktop and phone sizes, with popups and panels open. We also tested by keyboard only, at 320 pixels wide (the same as 400% zoom), at 200% zoom and with increased text spacing, and checked colour contrast for text and map pins. We have not yet completed testing with screen readers, so please tell us if something doesn’t work for you.
Tell us about a problem
If you find something hard to use, or you need information from this site in a different format, contact us through the Dynumo contact page (opens in a new tab). Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and what happened, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
ChoiceMapNI is an independent project and is not run by the Housing Executive. For help with a housing application, including in other formats, contact the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (opens in a new tab).
